Samsung unveils Flex Titanium technology for next‑gen foldable phones

Samsung Electronics announced its new Flex Titanium screen architecture for upcoming Galaxy foldable devices. The design incorporates a titanium‑alloy film placed under the OLED panel and a separate flexible titanium plate, delivering a structure that is both thinner and markedly more resistant to repeated bending. Samsung says the innovation, built on seven generations of foldable‑screen research, aims to minimise the visibility of the central crease and improve overall durability, potentially lowering repair costs for users.

Executive vice‑president Sunghoon Moon stated, "The strength of Samsung in the foldable category lies in connecting user needs with our technologies, delivering tangible everyday benefits." The company plans to showcase the technology at its Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July in London, positioning Flex Titanium as a key advancement comparable to the earlier introduction of Ultra‑Thin Glass.

The announcement signals Samsung’s continued effort to address the main consumer concerns around foldable smartphones – durability, visible folding lines and device longevity – and may set a new benchmark for the sector.
