Samsung previews One UI 9, Galaxy Glasses, Z Slide rollable phone and Watch Ultra 2 upgrades

Samsung has begun internal testing of One UI 9, based on Android 17, for several mid‑range devices. An internal build for the Galaxy A24 4G was discovered shortly after the One UI 8.5 rollout, and the company is also testing One UI 9 on the Galaxy A55 and A54 models in Turkey, with a public release expected after the July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series.

Leaks show the upcoming Galaxy Glasses will run a customized One UI XR platform, offering a companion app to manage notifications, lens settings and customizable gestures such as wink detection. The glasses will pair via a charging case that displays status with an external light and may integrate with the Galaxy Ring for gesture control. Samsung also disclosed a prototype of a rollable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Slide, projected for the first half of 2028 with a 10‑inch 16:9 display that expands up to five times its compact size.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is rumored to feature a record‑bright 5,000‑nit AMOLED display and an IP69K durability rating, far exceeding the current 3,000‑nit peak of the Ultra series. Additionally, Samsung outlined which older models—such as the Galaxy S22 line and certain Galaxy A series phones—will not receive the One UI 9 update.
