Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 features new design and protective display corners
Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a redesigned ‘passport’ format that is wider and shorter than previous iterations. The device aims to function as a standard smartphone when closed and a tablet when unfolded. Significant engineering changes include the optimization of 270 components and the use of Flex Titanium and Advanced Armor Aluminum to reduce weight and thickness.
The device weighs 201 grams and measures 9.7 mm when folded and 4.5 mm when unfolded. The exterior screen is 5.5 inches, while the interior display is 7.6 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Some users have reported that the four corners of the internal OLED screen sink under pressure. Samsung has responded by stating this is an intentional design feature rather than a defect. The company describes these corners as an ‘elastic buffer zone’ designed to absorb shocks from drops and prevent dust from damaging the sensitive display panel.
