Samsung unveils new Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip8 foldable series

Samsung has unveiled its latest generation of foldable smartphones, featuring the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The new lineup emphasizes productivity and artificial intelligence through Galaxy AI integration. The Fold8 Ultra is positioned as a high-end productivity tool with an 8-inch expandable screen, a 200-megapixel camera, and a thickness of 4.1 mm.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 offers a more incremental update, focusing on a new chipset—either the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 depending on the region—and increased display brightness of 3,000 nits.

Market feedback and technical testing highlight both the opportunities and challenges of the foldable segment. While user surveys show strong interest in Samsung’s designs compared to anticipated competitors, technical teardowns note that current foldable mechanics, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, face vulnerabilities to dust ingress. Specifically, the IP48 rating provides water resistance but does not offer full protection against particles smaller than 1 mm, which can impact hinge performance.
