Samsung unveils privacy‑focused smart glasses at Galaxy Unpacked

Samsung Electronics announced its first AI‑enabled smart glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on 22 July 2026. The wearable includes a built‑in camera that activates a visible LED indicator whenever the lens records, and the camera automatically shuts off if the LED is covered, addressing privacy concerns. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip and running on Samsung’s Android XR platform, the glasses promise up to nine hours of use, lightweight construction, balanced weight distribution, and heat‑management features.

James Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung’s XR R&D team, explained that the goal is not to replace smartphones but to create an AI‑powered eyepiece that lets users rely less on their phones. He emphasized design details such as “a tenth of a millimetre matters,” and highlighted use cases like real‑time navigation, live translation, and hands‑free photo and video capture. Samsung did not disclose a sales timeline, indicating that further details will follow.
