Samsung unveils UFS 5.0 storage chip; Xiaomi launches 17T with Leica cameras

Samsung announced its first UFS 5.0 storage chip, marketed as up to 10.8 GB/s read and 9.5 GB/s write speeds and 40 % lower power consumption than UFS 4.1. The company said the new memory can improve app launch times, high‑resolution video recording and on‑device AI processing, and it is expected to appear in the upcoming Galaxy S27 slated for early 2027.

Xiaomi introduced the 17T smartphone in Brazil, featuring Leica‑branded rear cameras with up to 5× optical zoom, a 6.59‑inch 1.5K display protected by Gorilla Glass 7, and IP68 water‑dust resistance. Powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor built on a 4 nm process, the device runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 interface and will receive software updates for five years. Other highlights include a under‑display fingerprint sensor, 5G connectivity and a 5000 mAh battery.

Both announcements signal a focus on faster storage, more capable AI, and premium imaging as manufacturers compete in the high‑end smartphone market.
