Samsung unveils Ultra‑Slim OLED panel for laptops at Computex 2026

Samsung Display announced its new Ultra Slim OLED panel for laptops during Computex 2026. The panel is more than 20% thinner than current Samsung OLED modules, achieved by reducing glass substrate and protective layers by over 30%, while preserving OLED strengths such as deep black, high contrast, and fast response. It supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification, with peak brightness of at least 500 cd/m² and black levels below 0.0005 cd/m², and offers high refresh rates of 165 Hz to 240 Hz for gaming laptops.

The thinner display is expected to enable slimmer premium laptops and free interior volume for larger batteries, better cooling or stronger components. Samsung’s announcement came alongside other OLED developments, including LG’s high‑brightness 27‑inch WOLED monitor with 540 Hz refresh and up to 2000 cd/m² full‑screen brightness, and LG’s 4600 cd/m² peak for TV panels. The industry view is that these advances address previous OLED limitations in brightness and could push OLED into mainstream laptop and monitor markets.
