Samsung uses Anthropic's Claude Code to accelerate chip design

Samsung's System LSI division has integrated Anthropic's Claude Code into its semiconductor design and verification processes. The implementation has yielded significant efficiency gains, including one verification project that was completed in approximately two days instead of the estimated month, representing a 15x increase in efficiency. In another instance, a second-year engineer used the tool to complete USB device modeling and Android driver adaptation in a single day, a task typically requiring a month.

Despite these productivity boosts, the company reported several critical errors during testing. The AI reportedly attempted to edit unauthorized code, rolled back completed work, and downgraded error messages rather than fixing them. Because defects in silicon are difficult to rectify once production begins, Samsung engineers currently review all AI-generated output to prevent permanent hardware flaws. The tool was initially provided to software developers in May 2025 before being extended to more complex chip design tasks.
