Samsung warns AI‑driven memory shortage to persist until 2027, NAND flash gap projected
TrendForce predicts that global NAND flash supply will remain extremely tight through the second half of 2027, driven by a surge in AI server demand while consumer electronics such as smartphones and laptops continue to decline. The firm estimates a 4‑5% supply gap this year, with relief expected only after 2027H2 as manufacturers expand capacity through process upgrades.
Samsung reiterated the same outlook at its latest earnings call, saying that DRAM and NAND shortages will likely worsen through 2027 and could extend to 2028. Executive Jaejune Kim warned that new supply is unlikely to rise significantly before then, keeping memory prices high and pushing up costs for PCs, graphics cards and other consumer devices. The prolonged shortage is expected to keep component prices elevated for several years.
