Samsung washing machine owner restores smart features using AI

A Samsung washing machine owner has successfully restored smart connectivity to a decade-old Crystal Blue model after official support for its internet-connected features was discontinued. Using Claude AI, the user developed a workaround to reintegrate the appliance into the SmartThings ecosystem, allowing for remote control of programs, temperature, and spin speed.

The project, which has been shared on GitHub, includes a driver for SmartThings Edge and a command-line control tool. This restoration also enabled the machine to communicate with a connected dryer, allowing for automated setting transfers. While the solution provides renewed utility to an older appliance, the user noted that unofficial software solutions may not address underlying security vulnerabilities in older hardware components.
