Samtgemeinde Lathen conducts Lamex 2026 disaster exercise

The Samtgemeinde Lathen successfully conducted the ‘Lamex 2026’ (Lathener Multi Agency Exercise) in August. The large-scale disaster protection drill involved various emergency organizations, authorities, and companies testing cooperation under realistic conditions.

Scenarios included managing incidents at a sewage treatment plant and a local combined heat and power plant, focusing on human rescue. Other simulated emergencies involved a major accident on the MS ORCAS inland vessel at Lathen Harbor, a fire at a cooperative warehouse, and a severe bus accident on ‘Im Ründerdiek’ road involving approximately 40 simulated casualties.

Participating entities included the Lathen Volunteer Fire Department, THW Meppen, German Red Cross (DRK), DLRG (Lathen, Haren, and Meppen), the Federal Rescue Dog Unit Lingen, the police, and the Waterways and Shipping Office.
