Samuel Eto’o accuses former referee of undermining Cameroon football

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has accused a former international referee and military officer of working against Cameroon’s interests during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Eto’o claimed the individual attempted to influence Morocco to favor another nation and acted against the Lionnes Indomptables during the tournament, which Cameroon ultimately won for the first time by defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final.

In a separate development, Jean Crépin Nyamsi has publicly apologized to the Cameroonian people for his past support of Eto’o. Nyamsi criticized the FECAFOOT president for allegedly concentrating too much power and bypassing established procedures. He described Eto’o as a ‘super-man’ who acts unilaterally, specifically citing disagreements regarding Eto’o’s support for Gianni Infantino over Nyamsi’s own FIFA presidential ambitions.
