Samuel García faces scrutiny in Nuevo León over funds and policy

Nuevo León Governor Samuel García is facing scrutiny over several administrative and security matters. The National Association of Mayors (ANAC) has called for an investigation into allegations that the state government is illegally withholding more than 30 million pesos in vehicle fine revenues that should be distributed to local municipalities.

On the security front, García reported a 90% reduction in intentional homicides compared to 2024, claiming the state has seen its most significant decline in crime in 21 years. He noted significant drops in other crimes, including a 78% decrease in kidnappings and a 97% reduction in vehicle theft.

Additionally, the governor has introduced an initiative to repeal the ‘Pase Turístico’ (Tourist Pass). The proposed measure, which would have required permits for vehicles with out-of-state plates, faced backlash from citizens and neighboring states for potentially restricting free movement. The repeal aims to address concerns regarding legal certainty and operational clarity.
