Samuel Jonsson expected to remain in North America for Oilers season

Edmonton Oilers goaltending prospect Samuel Jonsson is expected to remain in North America for the upcoming season, contrary to earlier reports suggesting a return to Sweden.

While initial rumors indicated the 22-year-old might return to the Swedish Hockey League, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer reported that all indicators show Jonsson will attend the team’s rookie camp in September and play in North America.

Jonsson, a 6-foot-5 netminder who previously played for the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets, is considered a high-level prospect within the organization. The Oilers will likely need to find roster space for him at their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, which already features goaltenders such as Matt Tomkins and Connor Ungar.
