Samuel Kogar's meeting with George Weah intensifies MDR dispute

The participation of expelled Nimba County Senator Samuel G. Kogar in a political roundtable convened by former President George Manneh Weah has intensified a dispute with the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR).

Kogar attended the closed-door opposition gathering held at the Jamaica Resort in Paynesville on September 5, 2026. The MDR claims his attendance validates the party's previous decision to expel him, citing allegations that he engaged in activities contrary to the party's interests and misrepresented the organization during national political engagements.

MDR Vice Chair for Public Affairs Kelvin Mattaldi stated that Kogar’s presence at the meeting, which focused on opposition coordination, serves as evidence that the senator was pursuing political activities outside of the party's direction.
