Samuel Monroe Jr., actor in ‘Menace II Society,’ dies from meningitis
Actor Samuel Monroe Jr., recognized for his roles in films such as ‘Menace II Society,’ ‘Tales From the Hood,’ and ‘Set It Off,’ has died following a battle with meningitis.
Monroe was hospitalized in April after contracting meningitis during a business trip to Las Vegas. Reports indicate that his condition was initially misdiagnosed by multiple hospitals, delaying effective treatment for several months. By the time the infection was identified, it had spread to his brain and spine. During his illness, Monroe underwent three brain surgeries and experienced significant complications, including loss of mobility and severe seizures.
Prior to his death, Monroe was involved in a legal dispute between his mother, Joyce Patton, and Shawna Stewart, who was identified as his alleged wife. Patton had filed a petition for a conservatorship and questioned the legal status of Monroe's marriage to Stewart. Monroe is survived by his wife and three children.
