Samuel Monroe Jr. family enters legal battle over conservatorship

A legal dispute has emerged over the care and finances of actor Samuel Monroe Jr., known for his role in ‘Menace II Society,’ who has been on life support in Los Angeles since April. His mother, Joyce Patton, has filed a petition for conservatorship, questioning the legal validity of Monroe Jr.’s marriage to Shawna Stewart. Patton claims Monroe Jr. has lived with her for the past four years and has raised concerns regarding Stewart’s management of his film residuals and GoFundMe donations.

Shawna Stewart, who identifies as Monroe Jr.’s wife and former power of attorney, is contesting the bid. She maintains that Monroe Jr. intended for her to manage his medical and financial affairs. Stewart has denied allegations of misusing funds and accused Patton of attempting to gain control over his finances.

Monroe Jr.’s medical condition remains critical. Following an initial diagnosis of severe meningitis, he developed MRSA pneumonia, which led to complications including seizures, brain swelling, and the need for dialysis and multiple brain surgeries.
