Samuel Sey detained by ICE following alleged visa overstay

Samuel Sey, a 39-year-old Ghanaian-born Christian commentator and vocal supporter of strict US immigration enforcement, has been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Sey was arrested at Columbus International Airport on October 21 and subsequently booked into the Butler County Jail in Hamilton, Ohio, where records indicated a “Hold for ICE” status.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Sey entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his authorized period of admission by more than four years. According to a DHS spokesperson, Sey has no pending immigration applications and has accepted voluntary departure. He will remain in custody until he is removed from the country.

Supporters and conservative commentators have disputed the circumstances of his detention, suggesting the situation may stem from a clerical error or administrative paperwork issue. A fundraiser has been organized to assist Sey’s family with legal costs and living expenses while he seeks release on bail to address his immigration documentation.
