San Andrés implements nautical signaling to improve beach safety

The Departmental Tourism Secretariat is implementing a nautical signaling and buoy system to organize the beaches of San Andrés. This initiative aims to improve safety and coexistence between swimmers, vessels, and tourism operators by clearly delimiting specific areas for different uses.

The project follows a maritime accident on June 10, 2026, where a collision between the vessels ‘Mi Bonita 2’ and the tourist pontoon ‘Gold Fish’ resulted in two deaths and two injuries. The first phase of the implementation, scheduled for 2026, will cover sectors including White Watta, Spratt Bight, and various diving points.

The effort involves coordination between the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago (Coralina), the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), and the Departmental Government.
