San Antonio approves new Wetlands Ordinance
The San Antonio Municipal Council has approved a new Wetlands Ordinance, establishing a legal framework for the protection, conservation, and preservation of the commune's wetland ecosystems. The approval follows more than four years of development and technical work.
The ordinance introduces governance mechanisms and community participation tools to strengthen the management and care of these natural areas. Mayor Omar Vera Castro emphasized that the regulation aligns with national environmental legislation and requires a joint commitment between the municipality and the local community to safeguard these spaces.
The initiative was presented by Francisco Valenzuela López, director of the Directorate of Environment, Cleaning, and Ornamentation (DIMAO). The process also recognized the contributions of the late councilman Milko Caracciolo Soto, who served as president of the Environment Commission and was a key driver in the review and discussion of the document.
