San Antonio de Areco releases facsimile edition of Don Segundo Sombra

To mark the centenary of the publication of Ricardo Güiraldes’ novel, ‘Don Segundo Sombra’, the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio de Areco (Unsada) and the local municipality have released a facsimile edition. This replica preserves the original 1926 typography and page layout of the Proa publishing house.

The commemorative project was developed using three original editions of the book for digitization, employing cold light to prevent damage to the historical paper. The new edition consists of 1,000 copies printed on 70-gram natural pollen paper with 60-gram cardboard binding. Of these, 100 copies feature sewn binding.

The launch coincides with the ‘Centenarios Güiraldeanos’, a series of commemorations including the 140th anniversary of the author's birth in 2026 and the centenary of his death in 2027. Copies will be available for purchase during the Fiesta de la Tradición in San Antonio de Areco on November 14 and 15.
