San Antonio opposition group rejects toll gate installation
The Progressive Opposition Platform (PPO), a coalition including the Socialist, Liberal, Radical, and Communist parties, has expressed formal opposition to the installation of toll gates in San Antonio. The group supports local neighborhood organizations protesting the project, arguing that the four proposed gates will negatively impact the entire commune.
According to the PPO, the tolls will increase the cost of all transportation, as it is unlikely that trucking or public transport companies will absorb the extra fees. This is expected to harm the local economy, specifically tourism and commerce. Furthermore, the group criticized the project for failing to include a free-access road, which they claim will restrict the freedom of movement for residents and force them to pay to circulate within their own territory.
The coalition warned that the lack of alternative routes could lead to increased traffic congestion, environmental damage, and the degradation of local streets. They have called on local, regional, and national authorities, specifically the Ministry of Public Works, to provide solutions and transparency regarding the project.
