San Antonio port operations paralyzed by independent truckers' blockade

Independent truckers in San Antonio, Valparaíso Region, have initiated an indefinite blockade of container depots and port terminals, including San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) and DP World. The protest, led by the Agrupación de Camioneros Independientes de San Antonio (Agreporsai), began during the night shift on Wednesday and has completely halted the movement of cargo in the Malvilla sector.

The mobilization is driven by rising fuel costs, frozen transport tariffs, and opposition to the Route 78 expansion project, which includes the installation of four new electronic toll (TAG) gantries. These factors are cited by drivers as significant increases to their operational costs.

Logistical impacts include the immobilization of approximately 200 containers in depots and the suspension of unloading operations for 600 containers from docked vessels. More than 40 independent transporters are participating in the strike, which has paralyzed nearly 200 loading machines. Union leader Manuel Araya has demanded that the Undersecretary of Economy, Karl Franz Köhler, travel to San Antonio to negotiate, rejecting meetings held in the Metropolitan Region.
