San Antonio Spurs face lineup uncertainty ahead of preseason

The San Antonio Spurs are approaching their preseason opener with several unsettled roster dynamics. Victor Wembanyama is confirmed as part of the starting five alongside De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, though the remaining two positions have yet to be finalized. Coach Mitch Johnson has expressed a need for more on-the-job training to determine the most effective lineup, particularly regarding whether to start three guards including 20-year-old Dylan Harper.

Injuries and new signings are also influencing team depth. Tobias Harris is currently sidelined with a strained left calf and is expected to miss the preseason, which may create opportunities for players like Carter Bryant to compete for power forward minutes. Additionally, Julian Champagnie has indicated a willingness to move to a bench role to accommodate the team's needs following his recent three-year, $45 million extension.
