San Bartolo Longo named patron saint of Pompei

The Holy See has officially approved the proposal to name San Bartolo Longo as the patron saint of Pompei. The announcement was made by Archbishop Tommaso Caputo in the presence of Pompei Mayor Giuseppe Tortora.

San Bartolo Longo, who co-founded the Sanctuary of Pompei and various charitable works, will be celebrated annually on October 5, the anniversary of his death. This recognition comes ahead of the centenary of his passing in 2026. Mayor Tortora described the decision as a “historical recognition” that honors the religious, civil, and social foundations of the city.
