San Bartolo Park Trail 151 Closed for a Month for Safety Works

From 4 August, the popular Trail 151 that descends from the Montagnola (known as the “Tetto del Mondo”) toward Vallugola in San Bartolo Park has been closed to the public. The restriction will last about a month, with a planned reopening by 15 September. The closure allows a €95 000 consolidation project to secure a short, critically eroded section of the path that has become unstable after recent landslides. The work, carried out by Ambrogetti srl, involves installing a biodegradable coconut‑fiber geocomposite reinforced with a metal mesh to strengthen the cliff face.

The project is financed by the bePrepARed initiative under the Interreg Italy‑Croatia programme, which requires completion by the end of September. Park authority president Silvano Leva said, “Siamo consapevoli che la chiusura, in piena estate, del sentiero più frequentato dagli escursionisti… ma non avevamo alternative.” While the trail is inaccessible, the Montagnola summit itself remains reachable for visitors.

The closure aims to ensure long‑term safety and preserve the trail’s natural and scenic value for future hikers.
