San Benedetto Coast Guard Seizes 2 Quintals of Clams, Imposes €7,000 Fine
The Coast Guard of San Benedetto del Tronto intensified inspections across the entire clam‑fishing supply chain, from capture to landing and transport. Checks uncovered catches lacking mandatory traceability documentation and exceeding daily quota limits for individual vessels.
As a result, administrative sanctions exceeding €7,000 were levied and about 2 quintals of live clams were seized. The clams were immediately returned to the sea. Points were also assigned to the vessel’s commander and owner under existing regulations. Coast Guard Captain Giuseppe Quattrocchi said the controls will continue to protect consumers and ensure the sustainability of the fishery resource.
