San Benedetto Ullano to host second Arbëreshë cultural heritage event

San Benedetto Ullano will host the second edition of “Vallje Arbëreshe – Memoria in Cammino” on Saturday, October 24. The event features an official delegation from the municipality of Gramsh, Albania, led by Mayor Besion Ajazi, to celebrate and preserve the intangible cultural heritage of the Arbëreshë community.

The program includes an institutional meeting between the Mayor of San Benedetto Ullano, Rosaria Amalia Capparelli, and the Albanian delegation at Palazzo Bisciglia. Following the meeting, workshops will be held on Corso Corsini focusing on traditional elements such as the Keza headpiece, bridal attire, and dance. The event also features a tasting of typical local products.

The evening will culminate in a performance titled “Il ritorno della memoria” by the Associazione Teatriamo, involving various local groups to reconstruct collective memory through theater, music, and dance. The initiative is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture via the National Fund for Historical Reenactment.
