San Bernardino de Siena Church suspends interior services after lightning strike

Religious activities inside the San Bernardino de Siena Church in Valladolid, Yucatán, have been temporarily suspended following a lightning strike on Saturday afternoon. The Valladolid City Council implemented this restriction as a preventive measure following recommendations from the Civil Protection Directorate.

An inspection conducted on Sunday, September 20, determined that the historic building does not show signs of imminent collapse. Authorities reported that the damage caused by the weather event is minor and primarily superficial. However, access to the interior remains restricted while technical reviews continue and coordination with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) is established, as the temple is a protected historical monument.

To ensure religious services continue, authorities have enabled the church's side corridors for masses and other celebrations. This allows parishioners to attend services without entering the restricted zones. Officials have asked the community to respect the delimited areas and follow all safety instructions.
