San Bernardino deputies kill man after shooting at utility workers

A man was shot and killed by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies in Mentone after allegedly opening fire on Southern California Edison employees. The incident occurred near the suspect's home while a vegetation management crew was performing tree-trimming work along the road.

Utility workers were able to move to safety and were not injured during the attack. Following the initial gunfire, the suspect barricaded himself inside his residence. After specialized crisis negotiators failed to secure a surrender, the man allegedly fired at deputies, who returned fire. The suspect died from his injuries, and his identity has not been released. The motive remains under investigation.
