San Bernardo mourns 72-year-old woman killed in violent assault
The municipality of San Bernardo, Nariño, is in mourning following the death of Blanca Emeria Pardo Rosero, a 72-year-old woman who succumbed to injuries sustained in a violent assault. Preliminary reports indicate that Pardo Rosero was found in a rural area of the municipality with signs of physical and suspected sexual violence.
After receiving initial medical attention in San Bernardo, she was transferred to a hospital in Pasto, where she later passed away. Local authorities and the municipal administration, led by Mayor Jairo Arley Ibarra Moreno, have expressed deep indignation and called for a swift investigation to determine if the crime constitutes a feminicide and to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
In response to the incident, the community has organized a candlelight vigil and demonstration scheduled for Monday, August 31, at the main park of San Bernardo. The event aims to demand justice and protest against gender-based violence, which local representatives noted has seen recent occurrences in the region.
