San Calogero student returns to school following disability rights protest

Giuseppe, an autistic child from San Calogero, has returned to his classroom following a period of absence organized by his parents, Domenico and Katia Zinnà. The family had staged a protest to highlight the lack of educational continuity, specifically requesting that the support teacher from the previous school year be reassigned to him to maintain a vital bond of trust.

While the child's return was met with support from classmates, families, and the local community, the parents expressed mixed emotions. They described their recent absence as a “necessary alarm cry” to draw attention to systemic issues. They criticized current procedures for assigning support teachers, arguing that the system fails to account for the individual needs of students with disabilities.

The family expressed gratitude to the local mayor, Nicola Brosio, and the parish priest for their advocacy with educational institutions. Despite Giuseppe's return to school, the parents intend to continue their campaign through official institutional channels to advocate for better inclusion and rights for all students with disabilities.
