San Carlos forfeits opening match 0-3 to Escorpiones de Belén in Costa Rica

The Costa Rican Football Association (UNAFUT) ruled that San Carlos' first match of the 2026 Apertura season would be recorded as a 0‑3 loss after the club's license was suspended for failing to settle a debt of ₡69,691,421 with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund. The forfeit awarded three points to visiting side Escorpiones de Belén FC without the game being played. UNAFUT cited article 89, clause 26 of the competition regulations as the basis for the decision. This follows a similar administrative victory for Escorpiones a week earlier, when Guadalupe FC could not fulfill a match due to its own debt. The sanctions aim to protect the integrity of the league and ensure clubs meet financial obligations before the competition begins.
