San Carlos FC license restored, then receives 10‑year match‑fix ban

On 30 July 2026 the north‑Costa Rican club San Carlos paid roughly 70 million colones to the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social, settling its labour‑security debt. The Costa Rican Football Federation announced that the club’s professional licence was reinstated, allowing it to compete in the national championship.

Later that same day the federation’s disciplinary commission ruled that San Carlos (also known as Municipal Garabito FC) had manipulated several matches during the 2025 season. The club received a ten‑year prohibition from all football activities, the harshest penalty under the federation’s zero‑tolerance policy. The sanction covers matches such as the 2‑8 loss to Quepos Cambute (19 Jan), the 1‑5 defeat to Cofutpa (9 Feb), the 6‑2 loss to Municipal Greece (1 Mar) and the 2‑5 loss to Jicaral (17 Mar). The ban removes the club from Costa Rica’s leagues and underscores the federation’s commitment to competition integrity.
