San Carlos Municipal Council approves 12 new job positions

The San Carlos Municipal Council has unanimously approved the creation of 12 new job positions for the 2027 Ordinary Budget. This decision significantly reduces the original proposal submitted by the municipal administration, which sought to create 108 positions.

Council members rejected the administration's request for various job reclassifications and reassignments, labeling the original remuneration proposal as ‘financially unfeasible’. According to Councilman Eduardo Salas, the municipal budget is projected to grow by only 677 million colones between 2026 and 2027, while the administration's proposal for new positions and salary movements alone would have required 683 million colones.

The approved 12 positions will be concentrated in strategic and operationally urgent areas, including one technical municipal position for the Patents department to manage a workload of over 6,000 registered entities. The decision follows a report from the Treasury and Budget Commission, which noted that available ordinary resources were insufficient to guarantee long-term sustainability for the full scope of the administration's original request.
