San Carlos municipality faces scrutiny over health leadership and staffing

The Municipality of San Carlos is facing administrative scrutiny regarding its staffing and leadership. The Regional Comptroller of Ñuble has granted the municipality ten business days to report on how it will regularize the leadership of the Municipal Health Department (Desamu), which has been managed by an acting official for nearly two years without a public competition.

This investigation follows a complaint by councilwoman Lorena Polanco. The Comptroller noted that indefinite subrogation violates legal security under Law No. 19.378, which regulates municipal primary health care. The municipality must provide concrete actions regarding the public competition process.

Simultaneously, the municipality is seeking to hire a new Communications Coordinator via a fee-based contract. This recruitment follows the dismissal of graphic designer Javier Garrido and comes amid local criticism from council members Daniel Pizarro and Roberto Carohan regarding the size and operational efficiency of the municipal press team.
