San Carlos to receive new high school following land agreement
A tripartite agreement between the Maldonado Intendancy, the State Railways Administration (AFE), and the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) has formalized the transfer of land for the construction of Liceo N.º 3 in San Carlos, Uruguay.
The 2,800-square-meter site, located at the former train station on Andalucía Street, will host a two-story facility featuring nine classrooms, biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories, an IT laboratory, and a multi-sport court. The project is expected to accommodate 600 students and is designed with universal accessibility.
Construction is projected to begin with an investment exceeding 107 million pesos, with an anticipated inauguration in early 2028. ANEP President Pablo Caggiani noted that this initiative is part of a broader five-year works plan involving a $350 million investment, which includes the construction of three secondary education centers in the Maldonado department. Additionally, officials indicated that a tender for a new high school in Piriápolis is expected to open before the end of the year.
