San Casciano dei Bagni archaeological discoveries reveal ancient healing temple
Archaeological excavations at the San Casciano dei Bagni Archaeological Park have uncovered significant details regarding an ancient temple and its healing practices. The site, which features a monumental basin five meters deep, has yielded 24 perfectly preserved bronze statues and over 10,500 coins preserved by oxygen-free clay.
Findings include bronze anatomical offerings such as hands, feet, heads, ears, noses, and mouths. The discovery of bronze internal organs suggests that ancient visitors believed the thermal waters possessed profound curative powers for both visible and internal ailments. Experts describe the site as having functioned as a major ancient center for medicine.
