San Chirico Raparo donates specialized hiking wheelchair to promote inclusion

The municipality of San Chirico Raparo has donated a jolette, a specialized all-terrain wheelchair for hiking, to the Lupi del Raparo association. The donation took place during the event ‘Oltre il limite: Escursionismo e disabilità in cammino’ (Beyond the Limit: Hiking and Disability on the Move).

Marika Padula, the regional guarantor for the rights of people with disabilities in Basilicata, described the initiative as a concrete step toward improving accessibility to the region's natural heritage and promoting inclusive tourism. She emphasized that providing such tools allows individuals with motor disabilities to experience mountain trails alongside friends and family.

Padula suggested that the San Chirico Raparo experience could serve as a model for other areas in the region. She also proposed establishing a network of trained individuals to assist hikers, suggesting that specialized training courses could make these outdoor opportunities more structured and accessible.
