San Cipriano d’Aversa: Two buffalo farms seized for environmental crimes

Authorities in San Cipriano d’Aversa, Italy, have seized two buffalo farms following an investigation into severe environmental violations. The operation was conducted by the Carabinieri Forestale of Marcianise in collaboration with veterinarians from the A.S.L. of Caserta.

Investigators discovered that livestock effluents were being illegally discharged into two large ditches, measuring over 100 meters in total length. The animal paddocks were also found to be filled with manure. Additionally, officials uncovered piles of hazardous waste, including contaminated packaging from pesticides and motor oil, as well as exhausted batteries, all managed without authorization.

As a result of these findings, authorities have implemented a preventive seizure of the business areas, the waste, and all 349 buffalo head owned by the two companies. The owners face charges related to the illegal management of hazardous special waste and the abandonment of non-hazardous special waste, which poses a risk of contaminating large areas of soil.
