Powerful swells generated by Tropical Storm Marie have caused significant coastal damage and flooding across Southern California. In Dana Point, at least 14 homes along Beach Road were damaged, with approximately 12 residences red-tagged as uninhabitable.

On the Long Beach Peninsula, intense waves breached seawalls and flooded residential areas, prompting a mandatory evacuation of roughly 20 homes between 63rd Place and 67th Place. The pounding surf caused severe erosion, leaving a 15-foot drop from the boardwalk to the exposed rocks below at low tide and compromising the structural integrity of beachfront properties.

In Malibu, heavy swells caused a driveway collapse and a natural gas line rupture, leading to the red-tagging of five residences. Authorities in Seal Beach also implemented temporary closures of beachfront parking lots to protect vehicles. While Marie has transitioned into a post-tropical cyclone, the National Weather Service warns that dangerous surf and rip currents will persist, and NOAA predicts a 50% to 60% chance of above-average rainfall for the region through mid-September.
