San Cristóbal authorities investigate murder of accountant Elio Rubio Soto

Authorities in San Cristóbal, Táchira, are investigating the murder of 75-year-old public accountant Elio Rubio Soto. His body was discovered in his office located in the Torre Sofitasa of the Centro Comercial Lido.

Preliminary forensic reports from the Servicio Nacional de Medicina y Ciencias Forenses (Senamecf) indicate the victim died around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, after sustaining multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck. The Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas (Cicpc) has deployed specialized commissions to collect physical evidence and witness testimony.

Investigators are currently treating robbery as the primary motive, though they have yet to confirm if valuables or money were stolen from the premises. Other investigative angles include the victim's professional activities, as he served as the treasurer and president of the Finance Commission of the Asociación Tachirense de Fútbol and reportedly worked as a moneylender.
