San Diego authorities find human remains unrelated to missing nurse

Authorities in San Diego County have announced that human remains discovered near Palomar Mountain State Park are not believed to be connected to the disappearance of Angelica Brophy. The remains were found by a volunteer search-and-rescue team in an embankment near Pauma Valley.

Brophy, a 44-year-old emergency room nurse from Oceanside, has been missing since July 6. Her vehicle was found abandoned in a parking lot within the state park. Surveillance footage previously placed her at Harrah's Resort in Valley Center before she entered the recreational area. While her Apple Watch last pinged near a trailhead, authorities were unable to track her cellphone.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the identity of the newly discovered remains, and the county medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation into Brophy’s whereabouts remains active.
