San Diego brush fire forces urgent evacuations

A fast-moving brush fire in the Penasquitos Creek area of San Diego has prompted mandatory evacuations. The blaze, which broke out Sunday afternoon east of Interstate 15, grew to 131 acres with zero containment.

Firefighting efforts include an aerial attack using helicopters and fixed-wing Cal Fire aircraft, alongside ground crews, bulldozers, and a Type 3 Strike Team. Authorities have established a temporary evacuation point at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park. Residents in nearby neighborhoods have been urged to remain prepared for sudden evacuation orders. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Red Flag conditions, characterized by low humidity and Santa Ana winds, continue to affect the region.
