San Diego District 2 race sees mailer attacks over Flock camera surveillance
In the San Diego District 2 election race, Democrat Nicole Crosby is facing mailer attacks from supporters of independent candidate Richard Bailey. The mailers, funded by top Bailey supporter Richard S. Richter, label Crosby the “Flock camera candidate,” claiming she would increase the use of Flock surveillance cameras in the city.
Crosby has publicly denounced the Flock camera system, calling for its dismantling and arguing that the private corporation collects citizen surveillance data without warrants. She has previously joined Councilmember Stephen Whitburn in expressing opposition to the technology. Crosby characterized the mailers as “AI slop” and unsubstantiated lies, maintaining that her experience as a prosecutor informs her disapproval of the system.
