San Diego golden retriever greets burglar with toys instead of barking

A golden retriever named Nash gained viral attention after security footage showed him attempting to play with an intruder during a burglary in San Diego, California.

Homeowners Dante Rowley and Stephanie Calderon monitored the incident in real time via a Ring camera while traveling from Chicago. The footage shows a man, later identified as 57-year-old John Paul Cline, entering the home through a second-story window using a ladder. Once inside, the suspect allegedly removed his shoes and shirt, ate food from the refrigerator, and took a nap.

Rather than barking or acting as a guard dog, Nash repeatedly approached the intruder with toys in his mouth. When police arrived at the residence, the dog reportedly greeted the officers with the same friendly behavior. San Diego police used a drone to locate the suspect inside the home and took Cline into custody on suspicion of first-degree burglary, with additional potential charges including vandalism and possession of a controlled substance.
