San Diego golden retriever offers toys to burglar during home break-in
A golden retriever named Nash gained viral attention after security footage captured his unusual reaction to a home burglary in the Sherman Heights neighborhood of San Diego. On September 5, an intruder entered the residence through an open second-story window while the owners, Dante Rowley and Stephanie Calderon, were traveling.
Footage shows the intruder, identified as 57-year-old John Cline, making himself comfortable by eating food from the refrigerator and resting. Rather than barking or acting aggressively, Nash repeatedly approached the man while carrying various stuffed toys, appearing to invite him to play.
The homeowners monitored the incident in real-time via their security system and alerted the San Diego Police. Officers used a drone to inspect the home and subsequently apprehended Cline outside the premises as he attempted to flee. While the dog's friendly behavior sparked online debate regarding his effectiveness as a guard dog, animal behavior experts noted that such actions are consistent with the social nature of the breed or could be signs of anxiety.
