San Diego mosque shooting: Lawsuit alleges mental health facility ignored FBI warnings
A lawsuit filed in San Diego alleges that Park Mental Health Treatment failed to take necessary action after being warned about the potential danger posed by Caleb Vazquez. According to the legal filings, the FBI contacted Vazquez's mother on May 14 to report that her 18-year-old son had been making concerning comments regarding school shootings on the dark web.
Vazquez's mother claims she immediately notified the mental health facility of these warnings, speaking with staff, a therapist, and a program director between May 14 and May 15. Despite these communications, the facility did not intervene effectively. On May 17, surveillance footage showed Vazquez leaving the facility at 8 p.m. On the morning of May 18, facility employees informed his mother that he was missing.
On May 18, Caleb Vazquez and 17-year-old Cain Clark carried out a mass shooting at a San Diego mosque, killing three people before both perpetrators committed suicide. Park Mental Health has disputed the claims in the lawsuit, stating that its employees are not responsible for Vazquez's actions.
