San Diego Padres defeat Houston Astros 7-2

The San Diego Padres defeated the Houston Astros 7-2 on Sunday, taking two out of three games in the series. Fernando Tatis Jr. provided a critical offensive boost with a three-run home run in the fourth inning, which gave the Padres a 4-2 lead.

Newcomer Austin Hays, who signed with the team earlier that day, hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat with San Diego. Additional home runs were contributed by Jackson Merrill and Gavin Sheets. On the mound, Randy Vásquez pitched five innings, allowing only one two-run homer by Daulton Varsho before retiring the final 10 batters he faced. The Padres' pitching staff held the Astros to just two hits overall.

With this victory, the Padres remain one game away from a National League playoff spot.
