San Diego Padres Designate Matt Waldron for Assignment
The San Diego Padres reinstated right‑hander Jeremiah Estrada from the 15‑day injured list and, to make room, designated veteran knuckleball pitcher Matt Waldron for assignment. Estrada, who posted a 3.48 ERA over 21 appearances this season, is expected to bolster the bullpen as the club pushes toward the August 3 trade deadline. Waldron, 29, has struggled this year with a 7.16 ERA in 32.2 innings after multiple injuries, including hemorrhoid surgery and a right brachialis muscle strain, and is now subject to waivers. If claimed, he could join another team; if unclaimed, the Padres may retain him as depth.
